I had a great conversation in the last week with a chiropractor who had an “ah-ha” that he could apply aspects of what had made him a successful athlete to how he also thought about building his practice. The thought made him feel lighter, less constricted – less serious in a good way!
Sometimes we need things simplified wayyyyy down to see where things have gotten out of harmony or squelched our joy and play and therefore energy. Business can be play. “Work” can be fun, if we can align with it and see the effort as purposeful.
In this case, my chiro friend thought about something he loved. Soccer and his success as an athlete. Practicing, years put in doing simple things over and over, plays and strategies simple and complex. All the while, having fun. Play. Working hard for the sake of effort and becoming better and being successful at the game of soccer.
Practice. Business. Relationships. Parenting. Not so much different than soccer. Now I know I am over simplyfing. But sometimes that is helpful. Look at an area of your life that you had some “wins” or success in. Chances are… you have put effort in here. Sure you may have some natural talent or knack or passion for that part of your life. However, you also put energy and effort and intention into that area…most likely quite frequently.
Feeling the difference in TONE or energy towards something we feel great about and something we really struggle with is a helpful step. In this case, bringing more play and practice (and less constricting, hard thoughts that stifle us) can be a spring board for change and evolution, more energy, and more success in this practice. Just like soccer has structure to the game. So does business, but it still can be play.
Can you look at an area of your life that you want to see grow and evolve and take some lessons of what you have had to do in other areas of your life to create success and apply those concepts in new areas!?
